Sorry but what Miss Claire posted is right. It isn't a derviation, it is where Balthazar is derived from.If you click on Balthazar it will take you to Baltazar, she was just giving you a short cut.

no I mean like the actually words (or anglicized equivilant) that comprise it. Like for Abigail it's Hebrew 'abi'=father and 'gayil'=joy.I appreciate the info though.Melina

Sorry, I see what you mean.Balthazar is apparently the Latin form of the Middle Eastern (Syriac) name Belshazzar which itself is derived from the Akkadian Bel-sarra-uzurBel or Ba'al was an ancient Babylonian deity associated with the moon.
Sarra means "king"
Uzur means "protect".All in all meaning "Ba'al, protect the king".
