Re: Adia
Hi Anastasia,This is what I found:I) African (Swahili): "present of God"II) Hindi: "born on Sunday"III) Variant of Ada:
1) Short form of Old German names beginning with Adal- "noble"2) Hebrew: "ornament" or "lightness"3) Variant of Aida:
a) Greek: "Ethiopian"
b) Short form for Adelaida, variant of Old German Adelheid "noble" + "manner, fashion"
c) Latin: "helpful"
d) African (Swahili) "advantage"
4) English form of Old Norse Auda: "riches, wealth"5) African (?): "first born"6) Arabic: "performance of a duty"7) African (Hausa): "custom"That's all I found for now, but I'm sure there are more meanings for Adia and Ada!Regards, Satu

Actually, my husband and I choose the surname Adia when we got married. It is actually Hausa(northern African dialect) for gift. It is interesting to see these other meanings. However, in Hausa it is pronounced ah-dee-ah where as in Sarah Mac's song it is pronounced ay-dee-ah. Pretty cool, I hadn't remembered that there was a song called Adia!
