Rikus
I'm pretty sure that's how it's spelled. It's pronounced RIE-kus.
This is my husband's cousin's son's name (he's probably about 12). I think that his parents named him after a book character. He's the only person I'd ever heard of with that name, but then my mom told me that she went to church with an older man named Rikus. I can't find anything about it. Does anyone know anything about this name?

According to the Dutch name dictionary I have at home (Spectrum voornameboek by J. van der Schaar, D. Gerritzen & J. B. Berns), Rikus is a Flemish short form of Hendrik.
Thanks!

My thoughts exactly, and I wanted to add that Hendrikus is also used, so it makes sense that way that "Rikus" would be derived from Hendrik. And Rikus would be RHEE-kus in Flemish/Dutch, not RIE-kus.

My uncle who was born in the netherlands is named Hinderikus. When he came to the US they changed his name to Henry and then nn him Hank. I suspect Rikus may be short for Hinderikus.
