Thank you very much. I had no idea that Escamillo wasn't a real name. Shows how deeply Bizet researched bullfighting and toreros before writing Carmen.

In fact, Carmen is a work by Prosper Mérimée (Bizet based his opera in Mérimée's book), who was a close friend of Eugenia de Montijo, Napoléon III's wife, born in Granada.
