Fay - Faith connection
Just a thought about the connection between Faith and Fay.In dialects of English, Fay is an often heard contraction of the word faith. Broad Norfolk and Norwich both pronounce Faith as Fay, such as the village of Horsham St Faith (known simply as St Fay) and the Norwich road St Faiths Lane known as Fay's Lane. There is also the East London expression Iss-fay, meaning so be it or c'est la vie.

I always looked at Fay as being related to the word faith. I even recall reading Shakespeare and seeing faith contracted into "fay." Also "fe" in Spanish, pronounced the same way, means faith.

That's an interesting insight into a dialectal contraction of the word 'faith' into the word 'fay', but I think it probably doesn't affect the meaning or origin of the name Fay.
