This is the name of my Grandmother. She is from Mexico descendant of Spaniards living in Mexico. Her name is Gaodencia but it is shortened to Gao. Any idea where did this name originated from?

Gaodencia is a misspelling of Gaudencia, feminine form of Gaudencio, which comes from the Latin gaudens, gaudentis, "glad, joyous, joyful" (from the verb gaudeo, "to enjoy").The confusions between O and U in some situations are not unusual in colloquial Spanish : Juaquín instead of Joaquín or Eolalia instead of Eulalia, e.g.
