Where is my name from?
Hello, I'm Russian and my name is Marya. I know that the site says that Marya is Russian for Mary but my grandmother once told me that my name is ancient Greek. Unfortunately I don't have any information about this. Does anyone know anything about this?

Your grandomother is right, here is the information from the book "From Gaia to Hypatia, Greek women of the Ancient world", ISBN:960-316-288-4:
"MARIA-MARYA: Follower of Artemis, mother of Lokros by Zeus."

MAIRA, not Maria! The mother of Lokros was MAIRA, not MARIA.

Well, Mary is the English version of the Greek Mariam / Maria.
Couldn't that have been what your grandmother meant?
The name has roughly gone the way of Miriam - Mariam- Maria (- Mary)
