Jacoby
I've seen this name a few times in recent years and was just wondering its origin and meaning. Since it's spelled so similarly to "Jacob," I imagine they have similar roots. Is this true?

In A Dictionary of English Surnames, by Reaney and Wilson, Jacoby is defined as 'A preservation of the Latin genitive Jacobi ‘(Son) of Jacobur’ (Jacob or James)'.

A user submitted entry on this site says "From a surname meaning 'son of Jacob'". I have no idea how accurate that is, though.

Yes, it's also sometimes used as a feminine form of Jacob.
