According to legend, a halcyon's nest floats on the sea, so the bird is seen as both a harbinger and symbol of calm weather, peace, and security.

Just as Halcyone is the legendary equivalent to Alcyone, the words "alcyon" and "halcyon" can be used interchangeably.

I like the name Alcyone, because of its history and legend and many associations with peace.
