in reply to a message by Mar

It was initially named by Iranians "pirouzeh" meaning "victory", and later the Arabs called it "firouzeh"I know from my Arabic studies that فيروز (Fayruz/Fairuz) means "turquoise" and I knew that comes from Persian.I checked in Internet and I found the Farsi word for "victory" is this پیروزی (Fairuza).So...
1 The original name of turquoise in this area meant "victory" innfact nowadays is used the same word.
2 Arabs took this word with the meaning of Turquoise leaving the original meaning given to the stone. It makes sense?
