Alexander to Sikander or Iskandar is an example of folk etymology — the re-interpretation of an unfamiliar word or name based on more familiar forms, in this case Alexander to a more Arabic sounding Al Iskandar, Iskandar then becoming Sikander and Skander.

Yes, I was focussing on the metathesis, not the rebracketing. Should have been clearer, thanks for pointing it out.
