I discovered that Joshamee is the Christian name of one of the characters in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, namely Mr. Gibbs. Since I like the sound and the look of the name, I wonder whether it's a real, actual name or just made up by the writers. It looks like a biblical name, reminding me of Joshua. Perhaps it's a pet form of Joshua?

If anyone could provide me more information about this name, I would definitely appreciate it. :)

I would guess that it is a portmanteau name combining the names of two family namesakes, like Joshua + Aimee / Jaime / Jeremy , etc.

I think it looks made up, but could it be Josh + Amie (Amee being a phonetical spelling) as in the French word for friend?

It's certainly not a Biblical name. I would guess that the writers simply made it up by blending the sounds of Joshua and Jeremy, and perhaps also with the phrase "You're joshing me!" in mind.

I'm thinking of Josh + Ami ("my people" in Hebrew) -> "G-d is my people"/"my people is G-d"??... can't help more, sorry.

Josh doesn't mean G-d in Hebrew, rather it relates to the verb meaning "to save, to redeem". Thus if your hypothesis is correct, the meaning of the name would be "G-d will save my people" , which actually makes sense.
Interestingly enough, even though both the prefix "Josh-" (ye'hosh-) and the suffix "-ami" are pretty common in biblical names, their combination is not a biblical name.
