Correct spelling please: Donotus or Donatus?

I've learned that the name Donotus/Donatus means "given by God," but which spelling of the name is correct or more widely accepted, Donotus or Donatus? Sincere thanks for your assistance.

Think of the word: donation. Donatus has the same origin and therefore also the -a- spelling. An -o- spelling is simply a mistake ... some of which become accepted in time, but not this one! Anyway, it's pronounced do-NAH-tus, which limits the possible spellings in the English I speak. Could be different elsewhere.
