Water Sprite? Lover Of Water?
I am looking for a name that has the meaning 'water sprite' or something relating to the love of water. Any origin is ok. Although prefferably something cute, feminine and shortish. It is to name my little girl when she is born. I have one daughter who I named 'Nixie' which is of german origin but has the meaning water sprite. I would love a name for my soon to arrive daughter. An Irish link would be great but not necessary. A name relating to the love of water is important. I know I am being very specific but its very important to me. I have spent 8 months searching for a name with no luck yet. She will be here VERY soon and I need help. Please if you have any ideas let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Ondine and Undine and their variations (Ondina, Undina, etc.) are usually thought to be the French and English counterparts for Nixie.

Perhaps since names that mean Water Sprite or Lover of Water are difficult to find, you could find names that mean Water and Love and mix them together, the same goes for Water and Sprite or Water and Fairy.Terhi means sprite in FinnishThese names mean water: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?terms=Water&nmd=d&gender=f&operator=orThese names mean Lover: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?terms=Lover&nmd=d&gender=f&operator=or (Many of those are very beautiful and feminine.)

Niobe according to ancient Greek legend fled with her one surviving child after a series of family calamities and was turned into a rock over which flowed a stream created by her tears. It's a really sad story, but Niobe is a name in current use.

Thankyou Ivayla. I did already look through all of those names before posting my messsage though. I just didn't find any of them very pretty if you know what I mean? They are great names, but not really what I am looking for. Thankyou for your reply though :-)

However... Your requirements are quite hard to fufill. My guess on the number of names that actually mean "water sprite" is probably extremely low, and since you also want them to be "shortish" and "feminine", the number goes down even further. Try ---> Nereida or Nerissa - click for more info.
