Re: Meaning of the word 'Goth'?
The root of the word means approx. 'flow out, burst out'. English has a cognate in the word 'gush'.
Compare Ger. 'giessen'; Swe. 'gjuta'; Icel.; 'gós', 'geysir'.The word 'god' is unique to the Germanic languages, and _might_ (no one knows for sure) have something to do with sacrifices or fertility rites.
