I do pronounce Cali and Callie the same though I prefer the Callie spelling, I think most people will pronounce Cali as KAH-lee, the second thought I got with Cali was not KAY-lee but kah-LIE - which doesn't make much sense but is just me.
I think Callie works on it's own but not Cali, it looks incomplete imo.
I prefer just Callie not Callista "Callie" but if I had to chose between a spelling I would chose Calista.

I would say Cali and Callie the same. However; I think that while Callie works on its own Cali looks too abbreviated to be a full name. Calista (this spelling) is probably my favorite full name for Callie/Cali. Some others:

I think Callie is a cute nn. Can it work on its own? Probably. I think it really benefits from a longer name, though, if for no other reason than it's extremely similar to a couple very common names like Kaylee, Kylie, and Allie. A more distinctive fn would help her not blend into the pack so much.

I think Callie is a nice nickname, but I don't like it as a given name. I think there might be some prn issues with Cali, but I don't think it would be that bad, I think both would work just fine.
I can't really decide between Calista or Callista, I change my mind every second. But I've loved Calliope "Callie" for a couple of months now, so that would be my pick.

I knew a Caleigh when I was like 8-10 so that spelling looks more "right" to me than Callie even though it's kind of one of those creative alternatives for "-lee" names. Callie looks like of nickname-ish to me, though it could work as a first name.

I like Callie as a nn. It reminds me of my cousin Callie. It also reminds me of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I think it only happens once or twice in the books but I remember Pa called his wife Callie. I remember thinking it was weird since he usually called her Caroline or Ma and because I at first thought it was a misprint of Carrie since that was Laura's sister nn. But I could be misremembering, it has been so long since I read the books. Or it could have actually been a misprint of Carrie.

I only like Callie / Cali as a nn. But I don't mind nn's like Callie as mn's though. I know it's very vintage to use nn's as full names like Nell or Nellie for example. I like a lot of vintage names but I almost never like nn's as names. I'm certain Callie can work on its own as a name, I just personally don't like it.

Cali could only rhyme Sally or volley, and because of California being called Cali, it wouldn't occur to me to pronounce it like volley. I'd have to be instructed. I don't think that a nn for Calista would need to be spelled Cali. I'd make it Callie. The way there's a K in Vicki but not in Victoria.

I don't think Callie does or even should work on its own. Cali doesn't happen where I live, so it just looks odd to me. And I can't see the point of having Callista moult an L. Calliope is too noisy to be a name.

Callie is nice. I pronounce it the same as Cali. I don't know what other people would do.
