Comments for Jessica

I only recently learned that my dad had an aunt named Jessica and I'm named after her. I just thought they were unconsciously following the 80's Jessica trend. Not that I ever disliked my name, but it does give it a bit more emotional weight in my mind. Also, I can think of worse Shakespearean characters to be named after. Or rather, Shakespearean characters with pretty names and very unfortunate fates.
It'd be a lovely name if it wasn't so overused, now it just sounds basic & boring.
Jessica is such a cool name! It's friendly and kind, yet powerful and elegant.
Gorgeous name, though for some reason the girls in school I knew with this name all seemed to be pretty…. Promiscuous or showy? A little too sassy. Like… all four of them. Something about that name just was bold. They were all a little on the extra flirty and in your face spectrum in a big way. I don’t know if I’ve ever met a modest or shy Jessica.
I love my name. My mother was going to name me Lolita but my sister, Melissa insisted on “Jessica”. She was afraid I would get made fun of if I was named Lolita. My mom still calls me Lolita today! 😀.
Jessica is a top-tier girl’s name in my mind, because it would honor the name Jesse (used in my family). I can’t understand why anyone would hate this beautiful name, gleaming with history.
My friend's name, really pretty.
Jessica is a wonderful name.
My name is Jessica & I like it…especially since it wasn’t popular when I was born. And now I can “feel younger” because most all Jessica’s I meet are young:) I go by Jess.
I really like the nicknames Jessie and Jess.
I think it has been overused lately, I like the name, maybe a middle name but not a first name.
Shakespeare was incredible- wow who knew! Jessica is such a lovely name. I would be more than happy to be called Jessica! :)
Sorry but it literally has the word "sick" in it. Not nice.
It’s an okay name. I understand why people who don’t like it don’t, but I also think it just sounds really pretty.
As much as I know people hate this name nowadays it hurts me so much. However I think it is a wonderful name so if anyone has this name I think that it is nice.
I have mixed feelings about this name. When I say it I hear the word “sick”.
I really like the name Jessica! I don't understand why a lot of people don't like it very much. It's a timeless name and it could be used in any generation (in my opinion)
My mom's middle name is Jesica, I like the one s spelling better, but I don't really like the name in general.
I think some people think this name is boring but I think it’s pretty classic and timeless. It was in use in Shakespeare’s time!
Jessica reminds me of a Long Island PTA mom who drives a massive Mercedes and has a Starbucks addiction. Bonus points if she has a chunky phone case and can't stop playing candy crush.
I like it, I guess? It's not my preferred pick. But if your name is Jessica, feel good about your name. I think everyone should.
Seriously. Too many haters of this name Jessica, too many people loathing this. Please stop upvoting a negative comment and downvoting a positive comment because it makes me so afraid and miserable. Please be kind and respect this name. It's not that bad but many people are rude about this name. Many people who upvote those negative opinions are trolling. I like it as a middle name only.
Spelled this way, Jessica is usually pronounced /ˈd͡ʒɛs.ɪ.ka/ in German. [noted -ed]
The Finnish pronunciation is the same as the German and Dutch one.
A positive opinion: I think Jessica is a good name. It's so beautiful, elegant and kind in my opinion. :)

I think this name has class.
The only reason I don’t like this name is because of Jessica Wakefield from Sweet Valley high. I like Elizabeth a lot better than Jessica in those books.
Some name has to be #1 on the charts, and it may as well be a beautiful Shakespearean name that goes back to the 1500s, like “Jessica”, rather than some made-up monstrosity.
Today I heard the name Jessica— and even though all these years I’ve found it a rather ordinary name…I realized how beautiful it is.
I like the way it flows Je-ss-ica—-the “ican” part adds a pretty end and I really like the Hebrew names. My name is Samantha and though I find my name ordinary, I’ve had people tell me my name is nice…Then I started paying more attention to names overall and wanted to give the same compliment—“Jessica” is a name I find worth honoring today lol.
Jessica Rabbit is a character from the 1988 live action animated hybrid film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". She's portrayed as a gorgeous, coy, but devoted wife to her husband Roger.
It was super overused for quite some time, but it's probably okay to use nowadays, just like how the name Mary is actually pretty safe to use now.
Pretty, but overused. Even in my school (if I remember right), there were around 10 girls with Jessica as their full name, but not all of them were called it.
I think Jessica is a very pretty name. I didn’t used to be such a fan of it, but now it’s since grown on me and I really like it. Definitely a lot better than a lot of modern names.
Hello and I guess I am the one of many Jessica out here in the world. I personally think it's a pretty name. I LOVE to write my name in cursive it's just as pretty as on paper. I might have liked something a bit more unique but Jessica has grown on me I am thankful for it. I just have to say to all the haters out there, I would find it amusing what your plain boring name might be to hate on mine so much. It says a lot when you have nothing better in the world to do but post some negativity about a name that's not yours. WoW get a life! I have never met an unattractive Jessica though, so that's a major plus.
I like the name Jessica, I don't care that it was overused in the 80s and 90s, it's got classic roots and now that it isn't overused by new parents I would consider using it. I think it is refined enough that it could be in a category with Elizabeth or Katherine.
I really don't know why so many people hate the name Jessica. My sister is named Jessica and the name really suits her. She is really smart and beautiful and her name adds to that. Sure there are a lot of people named Jessica but the nicknames my sister's friends give her makes her name seem more special to her and she does find it amusing when teachers call the roll and there are at least 6 Jessicas.
This is my name. It’s kinda sad seeing everyone say it’s icky or bland. I was born in the 90s when it was super popular, so I understand that it has been overused at times, but I also think it can be really pretty. Jessica’s aren’t always “tacky” “basic” or “mean” like some of the comments say. Also for me personally, I like having the nickname Jess. It’s short and simple, yeah, but it fits me.
This is an OK name but it's too boring and overused. There are far more interesting and creative names out there.
Jessica is a good "sister" name for Isaac.
The name is decent at most. Really boring and overused though, to be honest.
“Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur, got the whole club looking at her.. She- JESSICA”If you get the joke, I love you.
Decent name.
Jessica Keenan Wynn is a Broadway actress best known for originating the roles of Heather Chandler is Heathers the musical and Cynthia Weil in Beautiful: The Carol King musical.
Boring, not that pretty, common.
So dated and overused back in the 70s & 80s.
My old friend was called this, brilliant name.
Pleasant name.
Good name. Jessica has class. Fits for young woman, old woman. Really interesting name. Not boring.
Love it! It’s pretty and I like the nickname Jess.
Don't like it. Reminds me of a really snotty girl. IDK it just does. But I like the name/nicknames Jess or Jessie.
I’ve never liked this name! Not only is it extremely dated now, it’s just plain ugly!
Beautiful name!
Pretty dated. I like Jess though.
Jessica Simpson is an American singer.
I’m so over this name. It might’ve been unique and different when It first started being used in the 80’s, but now it’s so overused that it’s not even funny anymore.
My name is Jessica and my sisters name is Jennifer. Nobody ever called her Jessica but everyone always called me Jennifer. I feel like she was the favorite child. Even after I tell people my name or it is written down on a text, I’m still called Jennifer. It happened today.
Maybe I’ll just change it to Jennica instead of Jessica since nobody can get it right ;) jk!
Also, if I had a ‘son, I think Jesse is a nice name.
I really love this name and I think it's really pretty. I'd consider twin girls named Jessica and Jennifer, nicknamed Jessie and Jennie. I don't really care what anyone says, who cares if it was popular in the 70s-90s in the U.S.? Also, it isn't popular anymore, so I don't see the problem. The people who are stereotyping people with this name need to stop, not all people are the same. You have the right to hate this name, but stereotyping people with the name Jessica is not okay. People come in all shapes and sizes, so do Jessica's, Jennifer's, Emily's, Amanda's, Ashley's, Olivia's, Rebecca's, Catherine's/Katherine's, all people are different. A name doesn't make the person.
This is my late cousin’s name, I didn’t really think about it much until my aunt accidentally called me “Jess” at her memorial. That made me realize that I do like it with that nickname.
I used to hate my name growing up, especially because most people associate it with a blonde white girl, and I’m a brunette brown girl. But now that I’m a little older, I don’t hate it anymore, it’s not necessarily my favourite name, but I’ve learnt to accept it. I do get the occasional reference to the Disney Channel show Jessie, and for a while I got “Jessica, did you sleep with your goddamn science teacher?” It doesn’t really bother me because I learned to joke about it with people. Honestly, if you like the name, don’t let the negative comments bring you down, use it, it’s your kid.
As a Jessica I am so offended by these comments even if they're true for most Jessica's. I promise I'm not basic, bland, mean or trashy lmao. I always associated Jessica's with being stuck up blondes.
I know this is really unusual, but I like Jessica spelt like Jesiqua. I think the “q” makes it edgy, creative and unique.
Spanish Pronunciation: JYEH-see-ka, YEH-see-kaItalian Pronunciation: JEHS-see-ka.
Despite what many people think, Jessica is not as common as it seems to be. I have only met 1 or 2 Jessicas, and they are all from a different generation than me. This name was more popular when Jennifer was popular, which was during the '70s, '80s, and '90s. If you want to name your child Jessica, but don't like this name's supposed popularity, try going with Jessalyn instead. If you still want to use Jessica, try giving your daughter the nickname of Jess, Jessa, Jessie, Jessi, Jessy, Jesse, or Jessye.
My name is Jessica-Ann, it took my mum a few weeks to name me in 1999. When she heard the song Mambo no°5 playing on the radio, at the time only hearing one other person with the name. That's what she had decided on! It can be considered a common name, but it's all relative depending on the person. Although, I hardly seem to meet another girl with my name these days.Looking at other comments - I think it's unfair to base a person's character by others with the same name, definitely doesn't mean we're all the same or have horrible personalities- we're all uniquely ourselves and most importantly different. There might be a lot of Jessica's, but our names are unique to us and hold different or special meaning.
It’s not a BAD name, but I can only think of basic white girls who spend all day at Starbucks and only use Tumblr.
The wonderful aspect about name trends from quite some time ago is that they usually fade and leave behind little gems like Jessica on the proverbial shore. I personally think Jessica is a very likeable name that is currently below the "fashionable" radar at this point in time which actually makes it even more attractive in my book.
My daughter's name is Jessica but it's spelled Jéssica and she is not trashy at all! She is only 4 so I can't really tell her personality for the future, but she ain't trashy.
My name is Jessica, and I love my name. I've noticed some comments saying 'it's boring' or 'it's got sick in it', and that's just your opinion. You can love it or you can hate it. I wouldn't change my name- as it's unique. I don't know anybody called Jessica except myself.
There is a reason this name was so popular in my generation and immediately before (born '91). It's elegant without being too soft (the -ica ending provides some oomph), and the Jess & Jessie nicknames are even a bit sporty / tomboyish. Jessica is an athletic princess, if you will.I liked the name Jessica better than my own similar name (Erica) growing up, and it's still a good name. *However*, I think if I were a Jessica I would've become annoyed with how many other Jessicas would've been at school with me - or even at work - and how I'd have to be known by my surname, or Jessica [initial], etc. That's why I basically consider Top 10 names to be off limits for my future kids, because even if I like the name I don't really want to put my kids through that.
It's so overused it sounds bland to me.
Ugly name. Harsh sounding and very outdated. Ick.
This name is sooo dumb, like an idiot person would name someone that. *eye roll* I have not met one Jessica who is nice or relevant.
I’ve never met a Jéssica who wasn’t either very mean and manipulative, or very easy.
I’m always surprised when people talk about “nice” Jessicas. Seriously, I’m 40 and have never met a nice one, but have met plenty of Jessicas.
Jessica is a character in the claymation movie “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”. This is Mrs. Claus’ first name.
It’s alright. Pretty common though. In a class of 11, there were 3 Maddie’s and 2 Jessica’s.
Oh I like this name a lot! And contrary to popular belief, this name is not very common at all. According to the Social Security data on baby names, it has the number of births with the name Jessica as 1,057.00, which represents 0.057 percent of total female births in 2018. In other words, not exactly common in this day and age.
Meh name, kinda overused, just like Jennifer.
Jessica Vee, better known as Jessii Vee is a youtuber known for her story times and paranormal experiences.
To those who are saying it's not in the Bible, it actually is. In Genesis 11:29, we hear of Iscah or Iskah, who is Abraham's sister-in-law, if I'm understanding that verse correctly. And I also want to say that I've only met three people with the name Jessica, including myself.
The name Jessica is a beautiful one. My friend, Jessica is very fun to be around. We have tons of jokes between us. I think that people with this name could have a variety of personalities, like most people do.
Jessica is mainly a feminine name, though some males use the name as well.
Jessica Skube is a YouTube star well known for her channel ‘Jesssfam’ where she vlogs her day to day life of being a young mother of seven.
My name is Jessica middle name Renee and I love the name Jessica! Many say it's common and I believe it is but funny thing is I've only met like 1 or 2 other Jessica's. Going to school I knew one and my step cousin, that's it. I also see many other Jessica's on this website saying the same thing so maybe we're all spread out, I think it's a strong beautiful name, although I will have to say it is unfair to define someone by their name, your name is a part of you but it doesn't determine how you treat others or live. I saw a comment on here that said it was trashy - definitely NOT true! That's an ignorant way to think and a little cuckoo if you ask me! I'm NOT trashy in any way and the other two Jessica's I've known were also NOT trashy- in fact they were exactly opposite, if I had to give one downfall to the name it would be others remembering my name as Jennifer rather than Jessica. I had a best friend and Aunty named Jennifer so you could imagine the mix-ups but they also were called Jessica at times, other than that, nice beautiful strong name. I hope the name comes back around and lives on.
I love this name for the unique spelling and sweet sound that I appreciate when I hear it.
There’s something soft, yet strong about the nickname Jess. I like it.
Down to Earth, girl next door name.
I have a friend named Jessica who’s a very successful investor. The name Jessica means “foresight” and “rich”. Making good investment decisions requires some degree of foresight. She unknowingly lived up to her name’s meaning.
A good sporty girl name.
I think Jessica is a beautiful name! I planned on changing my name to Jessica when I grew up. Also, I find it amusing how people can complain about anything! Jessica has the word "sick" in it, which makes it an invalid name.
Love writing Jessica in cursive. Hate the nickname Jessie.
This name will always have a tender spot in my heart as it reminds me of a wonderful friend I once knew by that name. Besides that personal account from my past, I can say that I have yet to encounter another individual by that name. I suppose, in my part of the world, the name Jessica is very rarely given to a girl these days. It was, according to status reports, quite common from the mid 1980’s to early 1990’s. In the year 2019, not at all apparently. However, that does not
mean its lack of popularity would diminish the polish of this pretty name that I find bewitching. A lovely name that shall remain timeless, at least, from my humble point of view.
In 2018, 23 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Jessica who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 30th most common female first name for living U.S. citizens.
Lovely name. No nickname needed.
A famous bearer of this name is Jessica Jung. She is the former member of the kpop group SNSD (Aka Girl's Generation.)
My name is Jessica and I’m 11. I was reading some of the comments and people were saying “it has sick in it” and “it’s boring and ugly and used too much.” Some people were really nice and saying “It’s the best name to have” and “It’s a very pretty name.” If you have the name Jessica you can also be called Jessie, Jess, or like my friends call me JeHeCa. My dad's name is Jeff so sometimes when people call Jeff I hear Jess and answer or the other way around. The name Jessica started in 1596 in Shakespeare. In the years 1985-1990 Jessica was the most used name in the USA. I don’t think that’s over used I think it’s because the name is beautiful. The name Jessica is the most beautiful name and so is Jessie, Jess, and JeHeCa and I don’t care what other people think.
This name is ok, but I don't like hearing the word 'sick' in it.
This name is very dated and I can't see it on anyone above 30. Jessie is fine, though.
On The Simpsons, Reverend Lovejoy has a daughter named Jessica. She briefly dated Bart Simpson.
Jessica is a beautiful name, so many people like it. I agree, it can be a little bit popular at times, but still. I mean, who wouldn’t like a person who could take the name Jessie, and transform it into JESSICA? I love it! Absolutely beautiful name.

It's boring and too common. I dislike this name.
Plain name. Don't really like it.
Knew I was expecting a girl, made a list of possible names. Jessica was on the list along with other names I chose for their combination of strength & femininity, but not the one we agreed upon throughout my pregnancy. A couple days before she was born, her father decided he no longer favored the name we called her for months (Haley)! I pulled out my list & let our 3-year old son choose. As I read out the list, he stopped me at Jessica. He obviously didn't care about strength or the other stuff that got the name on my list in the first place. But he did love the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." Yep, she was named for Jessica Rabbit. Fun story for them as they got older.
My mother always loved this name but I honestly don't see why. It's not a nice name.
This isn't to offend anyone, but my name's Jessica (I go by Jess) and ever since I was a child I have never liked this name. For years I've wanted to change it and not because it's common, I couldn't care less about that. I don't like it because of the way it sounds and looks (especially with my surname). And the way it's pronounced in Spanish: 'Hessica', is horrible.
So to parents who plan on naming their daughter this, please consider a pretty name that will go well with your surname, and not have her cringing every time when she hears/has to write it. What you call your child DOES affect them. I still cringe at my name as an adult.
There is a song called "Jessica", by Meredith Brooks.
I personally love this name. I associate it with Jessica Wakefield, a character from the Sweet Valley High book series, which subsequently also became a television series. Jess had a twin sister, Elizabeth, and an elder brother, Steven - although Steve, as far as I know, didn't appear in the TV programs. The name Jessica is sometimes viewed as "dated" by people in the USA, but it didn't become popular until around the early 90s, here in the UK, and is still one of the top baby names here.

My name is Jessica and people have always thought I was intelligent. I don't fit the media's depiction of the name.
My sister's name is Jessica and I think it is a beautiful name for a beautiful person, just like my kind-hearted sister.
The name Jessica is so commonly used because it's the best name ever! Jessica is a really pretty name and people obviously use it because it's a good name. If it wasn't a good name, why would it be so common? I'll tell you guys again, JESSICA IS A WONDERFUL NAME!
Too 80/90's for me. I find it really dated, sorry.
I think this is an extremely trashy and overused name.
This is my name and where I live people always mistakenly call me Jasmine for some reason.
The name itself is alright, ruined by the popularity though.
Blah.. Common.. overused.. Boring.
My name is Jessica Marie - Jessica after the Bene Gesserit/Reverend Mother in Dune, by Frank Herbert. (My mom is a sci-fi freak.)These women were part of a sisterhood of hard-core, well trained women with super human abilities. Think High-Priestess-Ninja-Goddess... I love that I am named after this character. Marie (an homage to Mary, as in the Mother of the Christ) is my maternal grandmother's middle name. She was an exceptional person! So I doubly love my name. When I was a girl in the 70's NOBODY else had this name and I never found any cutesy personalized items. Now, because the name has become so popular I indulge whenever I see something that strikes me. Re: nicknames I am Jessica and Jessica only to the world at large. My family sometimes calls me JBird because I am fierce, and somehow many of my lovers have found their way to Jezzabella because I am so lovely ;) Names are a very important aspect of our being, as we and others identify ourselves/us this way, and it links us to stories and history. If you are a Jessica and you dislike it - change it! And I noticed that all the Jessica haters were "anonymous"... are you the Lisas, Susans, Nancys, Barbaras?
My name is Jessica and I don't like it because it has "sic" in it!
Pretty, but common.
I rather like the name Jessica, though it's not one of my favourites. It can work on all kinds of women, and it can be formal or informal when it needs to be. I like the diminutive Jess, which I think is interesting because it is similar to the Esperanto word for "yes" ("jes").The only drawback is that the name was extremely popular between about 1980 and about 2000, in a similar way to Jennifer in the 1970s. I'd wait another decade or two before using it on my own daughter.
Jessica Ennis-Hill is a British track and field athlete, specializing in multi-eventing disciplines and 100 meters hurdles.
Jessica Jones of Marvel Comics and adaptations, notably the 2015 Netflix series where she is portrayed by Krysten Ritter.
I like this name. Although overused, if pronounced in French this is a very beautiful name. Jessica
Zhe- si- kha Je- In French the j is not pronounced hard, instead it is pronounced like a zhe. I- is pronounced as an e sound.
I named my daughter Jessica because I loved the name, that and my mother-in-law hated the name. We named her Jessica Reann which to me is a good strong name for a very strong willed person.
I like the name. My cousin is named Jessica, but we mostly call her Jess or Jessie. She loves the name and for some reason she has never met another person called Jessica.
I think it is rather dumb to judge someone by their name just because you've met people with that name that were idiots. My name is Jessica, where I am from it is not very common, I have only met about 3, maybe 4 Jessica's in person in my life I'd say. Not to toot my own horn, but I am smart, loving, caring and I'd never do anything bad to anyone. Oh, and I am the very opposite of promiscuous, you can ask my boyfriend about that. Even now that I've moved to a different country and live in a big capital now, I still haven't met more people with my name. So you might want to rethink.
Every Jessica I have ever met has either been rude, self-centered, or just plain stuck up, including my own cousin. Therefore I can't stand this name and avoid people with this name.
Jessica is full of life and trouble. It's nickname Jess is boring.
My name is Jessica. I've always been fond of it, too. I like that everyone knows how to spell it and pronounce it. It's popularity doesn't bother me, I'm 22 and I've only ever known 3 other Jessica's. People call me Jess or Jessica - I prefer being called Jessica by people other than family. No one has ever called me Jessie thankfully, as far as I'm concerned that's an entirely different name.
Jessica Lynch was a supply specialist with the U.S. Army in Iraq who was captured by Iraqi forces and taken prisoner in 2003. She was rescued by U.S. Special Forces a week later, becoming the first American woman POW ever to be rescued.
It's my name. I adore it. It's strong, different (despite its popularity) feminine, stylish, without being at all cutesy or "pink"... So many men I've met in my life have said it's always been their favourite girls/women's name, too. Love Jess or Jessie. Becoming much less used (finally) so go for it!

I think the name Jessica is stylish and pretty though it's just SO popular that I consider it BORING. :|
Jessica Hannah "Jess" Glynne (born 20 October 1989) is an British singer-songwriter. She has featured on Clean Bandit's songs "Rather Be" and "Real Love".
My name is Jessica. I know everyone says it's too common but I hardly ever hear it (I'm 39) and I've lived all over the US. I meet a few here or there. I've always thought of it as very uncommon.
I was named after Jessica Clause (Mrs. Santa Clause)
My mother was 8 months pregnant with me when she watched the movie "Santa Clause is coming to town". She told me that's where she got the idea :-)
My family has always called me Jess or Jessy/Jessie. People who first meet me always call me Jennifer :-( that's the only thing I dislike.
My name is Jessica and I've found that the name is not as common as you are lead to believe. I only knew of one other Jessica in my entire high school. The name is a lot more unique than many other names and means "God beholds." Also, a person's name does not determine their character and it's very rude to say that it does.
A name does not define a person. It's foolish for so many of you to believe that it does. I find Jessica to be a beautiful name with nicknames such as "Jess" or "Jessie." Shakespeare happened to think the name was wonderful too.
If you're a Jessica and want to translate your name into Arabic, the proper way to spell it is "جإِسكا". If you type Jessica into a translator, it comes out "جيسيكا". This spells "Jeeseeca" and is phonetically wrong. Again, if you want the correct sound of your name, spell it "جإِسكا"
Jessica Paré is a Canadian film and television actress and singer.
My name is Jessica and I love the sound of my name, I just don't like how common it is... I sometimes wish that my name was more unique because then I would feel like my name is truly my own. I also feel like teachers, strangers, and people in general get so happy and excited when a person comes in with a pleasant but uncommon name. I think the world is changing and there are more names out there, so people won't feel like plain jane's, Jessica's or Ashley's anymore. On the other hand, the name Jessica is popular for a reason! It is strong, beautiful, and has many nickname options (Jess, Jessa, Jessie). But still, I wish I had a unique name that I can call my own so I didn't have share my name and be Jessica A because there is already a Jess N, Jess K and Jess C in my class. I remember my teacher in 3rd grade said, "I will call you Jessica and I will call Jessica K Jess." I said, "but I want to be called Jess sometimes too!"
I really don't care about how popular it is. I love this name, I might just name my daughter it.
I'm going to be honest here. I don't find this name the least bit pretty or attractive. Just plain, boring Jessica. I have one good friend named Jessica and she is the kindest woman you can imagine, and she's certainly not plain or boring, just her name is.
I also can't help but think of how unimaginative your parents would have to be to name a girl this. Its been the #1 most popular girl's name for how many years?
~Peace.
Jessica Dobson is a guitarist for the alternative-rock band The Shins.
This has been my favorite name since junior high, way before it became so popular. It was a little disappointing how extremely popular it became, but I guess a lot of people just felt about it the way I did! If I could have chosen my own name, I would have chosen this. If I'd had a daughter, this would have been her name. As it was, I wrote a book with the lead female character named Jessica, and I named my first dog Jessie after that character. Jess is my favorite nickname, and Jessie is also nice. I always picture Jessica as a brunette, I guess because I am a brunette and Jessica is sort of my alter-ego.
Jessica is my moms name and I think it is a very pretty, great name to use for a lovely little girl, but I don't like the nick names like jess, jessie.
Actually, Jessica IS in the Bible, just in the original Hebrew form 'Isska' (Iskah), like the first commenter said. Genesis 11:29 lists Iskah as one of the daughters of Haran. (The Latin Vulgate spells it 'Jescha.')
I know how popular Jessica is, but I love the name. It hasn't grown dated and it has been this way for 45 years, unlike Jennifer, which is ridiculous now.
Jessica Alba is a famous actress.
Doesn't stand out. I know tons. Variants:
Jessyka
Jessika
Jessyca
Nickname variants:

I love this name. It works perfectly at any age.
Jessica Ennis is a UK Olympic gold medalist.
Jessica is my name and I really like it! The fact it is popular doesn't bother me; it's timeless! I also go by the nickname Jess which I love.
Perfection! :)
My name is Jessica Lucinda and I agree it is common, but lately I have rarely seen anyone aside from very young children, with the name. Most Jessica's I do know however, are very unique individuals.
In Spanish, it's written as "Yessica" and pronounced "yeh-see-kah." [noted -ed]
Overused, yes. But it is still classic and beautiful in my opinion. Like Jonathan it is a strong J name that has stood the test of time and will likely be popular for years to come. One of my best friends bears this name--Jessie for short--and she is fantastic person.
Common, overused. An okay name, though I do not really see why people WUV it.
I completely and utterly and totally ADORE this name!
Sure it may be overused or popular and kind of simple. But I just love it! It is so classic. So lovely. So girl next door wonderful. And I love "Jess" and "Jessie" nicknames.
The main character of the show "New Girl" is Jess which is short/nickname for Jessica. Played by Zooey Deschanel!
I like the name but it reminds me of a sketty teenager.
Jessica Simpson (singer & actress)
Jessica Wakefield (Sweet Valley High Character)I think the name Jessica is a nice name. But it isn't one that really stands out.
Awesome name for a girl! I love it. Love nickname Jess or Jessie :)
1)smart
2)classic
3)girl next door
4)sweet
5)cute
I've always found this a rather plain name. I've always felt it looks better when shortened to Jess, or put with another name, like Jane. It's also so common now, that I've lost so much love for it. Sad face. :(
This become a very common name in Italy too. Sometimes spelled with G, Gessica. [noted -ed]
I think it's FAR too overused! Look at how many comments there are. There are around eight in my year. It's so common. I don't even really like the sound of it. Jes-SICK-a. No. Not a very nice name. Plain and boring. Even if it has a nice history, no ones gonna care or be interested when you tell them because it's such a common name anyway. And if someones says "you know Jessica?" they're just gonna go "which one?". I would never name my daughter this. It's like Sophie and Kate and so many other common names.
This is my friends surname, which I would not expect Jessica to be used as a surname. But in school, since they list it first, last name, all of our substitutes get confused and think her first name is Jessica, and then one sub got so confused because a lot of kids in my class had surnames you can use as first names, she ended up calling us all by our surnames. I still like the name though :)
This is my name and I absolutely hate it. No one says it properly. (At least where I live) As a name that was somewhat unique when given to me, it quickly became very popular. Jessica was way overdone for way too many years. I can't believe a name could stay in the top ten for as long as this did. It also never fit. I see it as the snob, spoiled, rich, mean, not as smart as she thinks she is, etc. I am currently searching for a new one to change it to. I probably should have done so sooner, as I am not exactly young now.
Jessica is the name of a character in Frank Herbert's "Dune".
This is very very common. There are five Jessicas in my year at school.
I like the sound of this name. It reminds me of Corsica.
Pretty, but very very overused.
Jessica is also Czech form. Pronounced "JE-si-ka".
Jessica has 518th place in Top 1000 Czechia. It was borne by 607 little girls.

Jessica is a lovely, beautiful name (my name!) - and not too common, because, actually I only know one other Jessica! My friends call me Jess (or Jessie) and I love it! It's just a shortened way of saying Jessica.
The definition I have heard of it means " The rich one" or "Wealthy"- and I have also heard the name is Hebrew.
From the Bible the man Jesse, remember?
This is my first name. It's a nice, classical name, but I have always found it boring and far too common.
This is my best friend's name, and I have always found it pretty! Even before I knew her. It's a bit popular, but why do you think it's popular? Maybe because people like that name?
A famous bearer of this name is the fictional Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote, played by Angela Lansbury. I quite like this name just because of Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote. :)
Reminds me of a dumb, vain, spoilt and generally annoying teen. Maybe because I've only known 5 Jessicas and they've all been like that, but still.
I even think that it sounds ugly, so it's clearly on the never-list.
Reminds me of annoying, ditsy teenage girls.
My name is Jessica (I was born 1988 in Australia), and it wasn't until I reached University that I was the only Jessica in my entire year, rather a nice change from primary and high school! My parents didn't realise how popular it was at the time of naming me - they found the name in a book, and thought it was very pretty. I also think it's pretty, but a bit too common for my liking. I do like that it's of Shakespearean origin though; I find that very interesting. I always introduce myself as "Jess" instead of Jessica, because most people just naturally call me Jess. I think people stereotype the name far too easily - most Jess's I've known have been relatively ordinary, nice girls. ;)
I like this name because you can shorten it to Jess or Jessi. Also this was supposed to be my middle name so I feel a certain attachment to it. I know a lot of girls named Jessica so it is quite common. Unless you want your child being called Jessica C. all her life you should pick something less common. But I still think it's a great name. Don't get me wrong.
This is my middle name and I'm so very pleased it's not my first name. I was named it for two of my great-grandmothers, one on my dad's side and one on my mum's. I've never really liked it because a) there were lots of girls called Jessica at my school and b) none of them were very nice! Since then I have met another Jessica, who preferred to be called Jess, and she was lovely. However, I think the name is very common in Britain, and would not consider passing it on to any children I had.
Nice origin, fresh name, but overused to a T.
Jessica is a common name that makes me think of a boring, normal sort of "blah" person, but if she goes by "Jessie" then it becomes quite a bit better.
Why sterotype a name? Every Jessica I know is a brunette. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It is the name of my sister. And she isn't an airhead or blond. She's a straight A brunette.
It may seem over-used today, but before the mid to late 80's it was considered a pretty unusual name. That's why my parents chose it - they wanted me to have a name no one else my age would have. They failed. In primary and high school, I was one of four 'Jessica'sI can't imagine being called anything else though - and no, I'm neither vapid, nor and airhead, nor a slut, thank you very much.
Ew. This name is so overused I want to puke every time I hear it. Every time I meet someone named Jessica I call them by Jessica + their middle name - Jessica Marie, Jessica Lynn. Then it sounds better. Seriously I would not recommend this as a first name. Maybe as a middle name. (No offense to anyone with this name.)
Jessica Watson (born May 18, 1993) is an Australian sailor currently becoming the youngest person ever to sail around the world.
Jessica means "God beholds" or "Jehovah sees". My name is Jessica and I like going by Jessie. I like the meaning of the name Jessica.
Actress Jessica Szohr, born 31. March 1985, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Her last name is pronounced "shore".
Jessica Drew was the real name of the original Spider-Woman in the Marvel Comics universe.
Jessica Walter is an American actress born in 1941, famous most recently for her role as Lucille Bluth in the [hilarious!] sitcom Arrested Development.
Jessica is a pretty names, but it's too dated and I detest the unisex nicknames Jess and Jessie. However, Jessica sounds more classic than Jennifer.
Jessica Sutta is a member of the Pussycat Dolls.
This is my name, and I can't say I love it. It is too common - at school I knew of at least three others in my year with it - and that gets annoying, even when you're little. I personally don't like the way it sounds, but there are worse names out there, and it's not a name you can really get picked on for. And it's usually pretty easy for people to pronounce and spell.
Jessica is incredibly common, but there's not much else wrong with it. It's spelt correctly and has a lovely origin.Be grateful your parents didn't name you Jesycah. ;)
This is my best friend's name and I think it's awesome. There's loads of people I know with the name "Jessica", around and about, but there's still only one Jess, which makes it all nice. (: We always laugh at how "Jess/Jessica" is used so much in books - we just simply state she's famous and everyone wants her in their books.
"Jessica" was a 2001 single by the Japanese metal band Dir En Grey, and also the name of the mother of Paul Atriedes in Frank Herbert's Dune books.
I think this is a pretty name, but too popular in my generation. A nice and original nickname for Jessica is Decca, which is what the famous journalist Jessica Mitford was always called.
Jessica is the name of a character in the Twilight saga.
Like others have said, my name is Jessica, and I hate how common it is. I have never been the only Jessica or Jesse in my class. While too unusual is a problem, too common is just as bad.Oh and to those saying all Jessicas are blond, you are mistaken.
A lovely-sounding name, but, yes, it's becoming way too popular.
Jessica Alba, (born 1981) American television and film actress.
I quite like the name Jessica, but unfortunately it's becoming too popular these days.
One of my school mates is named Jessica, but it is not very common in Norway (I have been living in many areas in the country, but have only met one girl with that name.) It is a very elegant, strong and youthful name.
I have always hated being named Jessica. The name is so overused that I can never go anywhere without someone having the same name as me. You say Jessica down a crowded hall and half the girls will turn around, because if they arent named Jessica themselves, their sister or best friend is. Uggg. While Jessica might have a pretty ring to it, the fact that it is so overused negates that positive and the nicknames for it (Jess and Jessi) I thoroughly dislike. Especially since they sound like boy names. But millions of Jessica's later it is more trouble than it is worth to try and not get people to call you by those nicknames anyways. I hope I never give my kids a name that has been beaten into the ground this much!
Jessica Stam, also known simply as Stam, is a Canadian model.
Although the name Jessica is certainly not a "bad" name, it's hardly unique or special. Perhaps it's because of the overwhelming popularity of the name, but to me it's just very bland.
Jessica Kordová, a golfer, born 27th February, 1993.
It's okay, but it's so popular it's not even funny. And then there are the annoying namesakes, like that braindead Jessica Simpson and that annoying overrated Jessica Alba. Not to mention all Jessicas on TV seem to be nasty airheads.
I also believe the name is excrutiatingly common and just sounds like a loose women. My take on it, like it or not.
My name is Jessica, and though when I was little I disliked it very much due to its popularity I have learned to love it. My mother says she named me Jessica after my great-grandfather Jack. (apparently Jessica is the female version of Jack but I heard that it was a female version of Jesse.)
My name's Jessica, and my parents only gave it to me because it began with a J (touching, I know, lol). If this wasn't my name, I'd say it was alright, only the without the "Kuh". Jessie's prettier if you ask me. Since it is my name, yes I have to deal with often hearing my name and it not being to me, but it's no big deal. I have yet to have any identity crisis over having a name that's a little common. And it has a lovely meaning and stuff.
This name evokes a picture of a spoilt superficial ultra-super-sweet-to-death cheerleader with a silly fake smile.
Well, for starters, this name is overused. Even the people who don't know a Jessica can probabaly name some 20 celebrities named Jessica. You can't exactly get a major number of nicknames out of this, which isn't the case with the likewise overused names Catherine and Elizabeth. Secondly, the name will most likely bring a cute, blonde, young, and rather dimwitted girl to mind. It has a bit of a bimbo reputation, and it is not really one of those names you can easily picture on adults. Anyway, it's not a hideous name, but it's nothing great either, so you should give it a rest.
Jessica Biel was an actress on the tv show 7th Heaven, and also the girlfriend of Justin Timberlake.
Jessica is so overused it just gets old. It's hard to see the beauty of a name when everyone has it. On my high school softball team we have 3 Jessicas, it gets so confusing that we had to resort to just calling people by their last names.
Jessica Weiner is an actionist and is included in the new book In Their Shoes by the author Deborah Reber.
God's Grace, Gracious etc. (Hebrew.) That's it. Jeh- God etc. And Other websites have that no problem.
Pronounced "YES-i-ka".
God I hate this name. It makes me cringe.
My name is Jessica with the middle name Renee. I agree that it is obscenely over-used, but it's still a nice name that ages well. I'm glad my parents picked Jessica and not something so babyish like MacKenzie or Hayleigh. People call me Jess and Jessi.
My mother named me Jessica Rae so that she could call me 'Jessi-rae.' And although I don't much like that nickname or any of the others out there, I don't hate my name. No matter how common.
I don't really like this name. It is way too overused. All through school I have known multiple people named Jessica. I also don't like the "ica" sound of it. Just don't tell my sister that I said that because Jessica is her name (my dislike of it has nothing to do with it being her name). What were my parents thinking?
I hate this name. So sickly overused, so preppy and so boring.
I go to school with 5 Jessicas, at least that I know of. In one class, I have 2 Jessica L's, in another, I have one Jessica L and one Jessica J. The other two Jessicas both have the same last initial and same middle name. However, one has a hyphenated last name, so that helps. I also know a Jessica K, a Jessica S, and several others whose last initals I'm forgetting.
It's a nice name, but as I've proven here, it's very confusing. Be wary of that when considering the name.
There is the beautiful instrumental piece, Jessica, by the Allman Brothers Band. Also, Jessica was very popular in the 80's and 90's, but it's popularity has been declining for years. I wouldn't say that the name is overused anymore. I don't think of any celebrities named Jessica when thinking of the name. I think of great music and great theatre.
Jessica Mitford is a famous bearer of the name. Jo Rowling's daughter, Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes was named for Mitford.
I've known LOTS of girls named Jessica. They're all different. Some are smart, some are dumb. Some are nice and some are mean. I do like this name, but because it is SO common, I wouldn't use it. There were about 5 Jessicas in my class in elementry. It was just too confusing.
I know several people named Jessica and they are all very nice but I would never name my kid this, it's too common.
I like the name Jessica. I know 3 and they are all dark haired.
One word describes this name in the USA: OVERUSED. If I meet one more Jessica, I'm going to scream. Curiously, all of them are blonde. I've never met a brunette, redhead or blackhaired Jessica.
My name is Jessica, and I go by Jecca. It's very original, I've only known of 2 other Jeccas.
I think this name is pretty. It reminds me of a fun, happy girl. However, this name is starting to get SO POPULAR!
I find Jessica too trendy, popular, overused and boring. I worked with two Jessicas and there were multiple in my school. It's another name I dislike and I wish it would not be used so much.
It sounds cool. I like -ica names. This is my best friend's name.
Heya, my name is Jessica and everyone on here is saying that my name is 'this and that' and that it is very common but it's not really! I mean I only know 1 other Jessica and she is only a baby! I think it is more popular in the U.S.A than over here in England.
