Meaning & History
From the Greek Αντιγονος (Antigonos) which meant "against the ancestor", from αντι (anti) "against" and γονευς (goneus) "ancestor". This was the name of one of Alexander the Great's generals. After Alexander died, he took control of most of Asia Minor.
