The Breton pronouciation would be /a.wɛn/≈"AH-wehn" or /a.wɛn/≈"ah-WEHN", not "OW-ehn". Theorically it could be used for either gender in this language even if the sound is more feminine.
In Welsh mythology, Awen is like this magical energy that flows through all things and throughout the universe. It's a bit like chi or mana in some ways I suppose, only that it's much easier to tap into and most often manifests in the form of inspiration. It's what Ceridwen uses when making the potion for her son Morfran, only for the Awen to be consumed by her servant Gwion instead, transforming him into the legendary bard Taliesin.It's also my birth name which I think is very cool >:)
