Axl Rose is the spelling of the Gun N Roses member (like this, without the 'e'). It is an anagram - I don't think I can put what it is an anagram of on this site.
"Axel" was Eddie Murphy's name in Beverly Hills (1,2 and 3).

Axel Bellmann is the name of the fascinating villain in the book entitled 'The Shadow in the North' of Philip Pullman's Sally Lockhart Quartet. A very strong sounding name in my opinion.
A famous bearer was Count Axel von Fersen (1755-1810). He was said to be Queen Marie Antoinette's lover and arranged the unsuccessful flight of the king and queen.
This is a semi-popular name in France. When I asked my husband, who is French, what he thought of when he heard this name, instead of saying, "truck parts", he got kinda' quiet and softly said, "Angels". Neat. If you're looking for a REAL French name, this is a winner. Just remember, in French, the pronunciation has the stress on the second syllable, not the first as in English. It ends-up sounding like the the word, "excel" with a soft "a" at the beginning or like the first two syllables of the word, "accelerate". This changes the whole feel of the name.
Axel is the name of a bad guy in Kingdom hearts. He is part of a group called Organization 13. He is my favorite organization member. Axel is a nobody, which means that he has no heart. Axel's weapon is fire, so I'm guessing that his name meaning has to do with fire or ashes or something.
What I like about the organization 13's names is they're all anagrams of their original names with an added x. For example, Axel's former name was Lea. Barely male, but when I try that out, the names end up illegible. Kudos to the creators!
I first heard this name from the Kingdonm Hearts series. After learning more about it, I've grown to like it even more. Although I will always associate it with fire.
I like the French pronunciation. In the US the pronunciation is kind of ugly, so I might end up spelling it "Accel" just so people would pronounce it right.
