Spanish pronunciation is [BAR - ba - ṙa]. [noted -ed]
This was the name of Spanish Queen consort, Barbara of Portugal (1711 - 1758). She was the eldest child and only daughter of King John V of Portugal and Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria. In 1729 she married Prince Ferdinand of Spain, Prince of the Austrias, the future Ferdinand VI of Spain, the fourth son of King Philip V of Spain and his first wife Maria Luisa of Savoy. They had no children, but they were deeply in love and Ferdinand held his wife in very high regard. Her death in 1758 sent him into a deep depression that he never recovered from. He would die the following year in 1759.

This is my name and I absolutely love it - it's not a completely unheard of name, but it's still somewhat rare, and I love the sound of it. That's why I don't like it when people pronounce "Bárbara" or "Barbara" as "Barbra" - I also hate that spelling.
