Meaning & History
From the Hebrew name בֶּן־אוֹנִי (Ben-'oniy)
meaning "son of my sorrow". This was the original name of Benjamin
("son of the right hand"), whose father, Jacob, renamed him in Genesis 35:18 (the name Benoni having been given by his mother, Rachel).
