Meaning & History

Derived from Old Norse bogi meaning "bow" (compare Bogi) combined with ey meaning "island" or ey meaning "good fortune". It has also been proposed that this may be an Icelandic form of Bogei, an archaic Norwegian dialectal variant of Baugheid (see Baugheiðr).
