The third daughter in Joseph Stein's "Fiddler on the Roof" bears this name.-- giraffe 5/17/2005
Chava was the first woman on earth, the wife of Adam. It is my middle name, and it's just as beautiful as my first.-- luckyak613 1/17/2006
My best friend's name is Chava. Actually, it's Chava Maeve, plus tons of extra middle names.-- sqirrlie 4/24/2006
Pronounced khah-vah.-- Miss Claire 7/29/2006
This can also be a Spanish / Mexican male short form of the name Salvador, in which case it's pronounced CHAH:-bah:.-- X-Mar 10/19/2007
Chav is not a good word to have in a name.-- Anonymous User 11/15/2008
Chava is not pronounced the same as Chav. It's a hard Ch sound made from the back of your throat (like in the Hebrew phrase l'chaim).-- ZoeAliza 8/30/2011
It comes from the same Hebrew root word as "life" and "breath."-- Atarah Derek 11/28/2008
I like this a lot. It doesn't have the Christian connotations of "Eve," "Ava" or any of those variants, and it doesn't look like it would be pronounced "Have-a" like "Hava." I imagine it with a gutteral "H" sound like Channah or Chaim, but I like the hard "K" sound better.-- MoonAgeDaydreamer 12/9/2008
I don't know why it says it's Modern Hebrew. Chava is the form used in the Hebrew Bible. [noted -ed]-- methrowrocks 1/3/2010
It sounds nice with the Hebrew pronunciation, but Chava would cause bullying in England because it looks like that nasty word "chav" used to describe lower-class people.-- bananarama 4/17/2010
Chava is not the Hebrew version of Eve. Eve is the English version of Chava.-- ZoeAliza 8/30/2011
