Chava was the first woman on earth, the wife of Adam. It is my middle name, and it's just as beautiful as my first.

My best friend's name is Chava. Actually, it's Chava Maeve, plus tons of extra middle names.

Pronounced khah-vah.

This can also be a Spanish / Mexican male short form of the name Salvador, in which case it's pronounced CHAH:-bah:.

Chav is not a good word to have in a name.

Chava is not pronounced the same as Chav. It's a hard Ch sound made from the back of your throat (like in the Hebrew phrase l'chaim).

It comes from the same Hebrew root word as "life" and "breath."

I like this a lot. It doesn't have the Christian connotations of "Eve," "Ava" or any of those variants, and it doesn't look like it would be pronounced "Have-a" like "Hava." I imagine it with a gutteral "H" sound like Channah or Chaim, but I like the hard "K" sound better.

I don't know why it says it's Modern Hebrew. Chava is the form used in the Hebrew Bible. [noted -ed]

It sounds nice with the Hebrew pronunciation, but Chava would cause bullying in England because it looks like that nasty word "chav" used to describe lower-class people.

Chava is not the Hebrew version of Eve. Eve is the English version of Chava.
