In the 1994 movie The Crow, Darla is the mostly-absentee mother of Sarah, a little girl who was very close to Shelly Webster and Eric Draven. Darla works at a low-class bar, sleeps with all sorts of men, does drugs, and self-describes herself as "never was too good at this mommy shit."
Darla Dimple is the main antagonist in the 1997 animated film Cats Don't Dance. She is a parody of Shirley Temple, with a cruel streak and a gorilla for a butler.
Back in the dark days of the 1990s, I watched the Bold and the Beautiful, and Darla was a ditzy character on the soap, nice but hopelessly ditzy, the ultimate bimbo, and her surname was Einstein. Ha ha. She didn't really look Jewish, I gotta tell ya. That has rather made this sound like a bimbo name to me, and quite old-fashioned, similarly as Marla, another name I don't like. Both sound like names of middle-aged women who have gained lots of weight and lost all joy for life, quite frankly.
Extremely feminine, while managing to be dark and vengeful. I have never known a Darla, and I greatly enjoy the name. It has a certain sass to it, along with the rolling R and L combination, that makes for an unforgettable name.
Disregard my previous comment-- I mean, this name is darling and cute and unique, but after watching the Crow I can not think of this name without thinking of Sarah's slutty mother and the way Sarah says this name with such disdain that it's almost a snarl. Ugh.

I remember liking this quite a bit when I was very young, I had quite a few stuffed animals and even a tamagotchi named Darla, but at a certain point (junior high?) I started to realize how dated it sounded which is very. The name also seems to be given to unlikable characters in movies and doesn't always sound pretty in certain accents, not one suited for a come back.
