I am another "Dennis" and always fascinated with the name's history. This is extracted from Wikipedia -- Saint Denis was a Christian martyr and saint. In the third century, he was Bishop of Paris. He was martyred shortly after 250 AD. Denis is said to have picked his head up after being decapitated, walked ten kilometres (six miles), while preaching a sermon of repentance the entire way. He is venerated in the Roman Catholic Church as patron of Paris, France and is a very popular name throughout France and many churches are named after him.
Dennis means "of the sky".
It's possible that the name is derived from Old English "Denisc" (sc = sh) which means Danish.
I don't know how to verify this information but it was given to me by my teacher who's name is Dennis: he said that the name Dennis means "godlike".
