I knew someone who pronounced it AM-er-ique. I think that it was the same name, but I'm not 100% sure.

This name is related to Amerigo - the name of Amerigo Vespucci after whom the continent of America is named. Emeric could be a very patriotic name for an inhabitant of the continent to give their son.

Vespucci was named in honour of Saint Emmerich of Hungary.

Emeric Pressburger was one of The Archers (the other being Michael Powell), a famous pair of filmmakers from Britain. They made several influential films during the 40s and 50s.

Two people from the Harry Potter book series bear this name:

Emeric Switch who was the author of A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration.

Emeric the Evil who was one of the previous owners of the Elder wand. He was killed by Egbert the Egregious.
