My name is Eliza :) well no, Elizabeth, but my parents have called me Eliza all my life. Recently I have gotten the Elizaaaaa Hamilton references which does make me feel awkward, but i do love Hamilton so it's alright. For me it is pronounced A-lie-zah. Which might not make sense as a nickname for Elizabeth, which purely by sound it would be Ee-lee-za. Most people do guess that first try if I am introduced as Elizabeth (at school usually).
My name is Eliza, and I think my name is nice and not too common. It can be said A-liza but it can also be said E-liza. Sometimes people will say to me, "Elizaaaaaaaaaa" from Hamilton. I don't mind but it gets annoying.
This is my deadname so I'm not the biggest fan for that reason lol. However, on someone else, I think it's very pretty. A good nickname for Elizabeth. Quite feminine, which is fine for those who like it ofc. Not for me, but I love it on others (and yes, I get the Hamilton Eliiiiiizzaaaa often, but it isn't that annoying tbh)
I've got this name, I love this name! Wouldn't change it for the world. While yes I am frequently hit with an elIIIIIIIZAAAAAAAAA- I like Hamilton so it's not really an issue. It's a really fun modern take on a more classic name, highly recommend it. :D.
So underused, one of my favourite variants of the glorious Elizabeth. It’s so elegant yet very adventurous, and I feel like it would suit any girl of any age.
I never used to like it, but I think it's quite pretty now, although I would caution that it's highly likely that she would be frequently serenaded/summoned by people belting 'eeeeeLIIIIIIIIIIZaaaa' across the room. It's pretty anyway, and Eliza Schuyler Hamilton is a brilliant role model.
I love the name Eliza from the cartoon I watched when I was a kid. I know it starts with the word “Wild” in the title. I did meet a Eliza in school and she wasn’t pleasant but didn’t ruin the name for me (surprisingly). Ha! Still think it's cute!
Eliza is a name that I’ve loved for most of my life. So, naturally, I still like it. Eliza is a very cool name.
A nice nickname to my name, very beautiful but I’m still using Beth tho.
Such a beautiful classic name with a modern feel. A perfect name choice! So glad to see this is getting popular now in the UK.
Beautiful alternative for Elizabeth.
I always think of Liza Minnelli when I hear this name. For that reason, an Eliza sounds like an older woman with short black hair to me.
Very pretty. I do know 3 my age, though. But it isn't a very common name, overall. I like that it sounds southern and country and that it works anywhere. Beautiful name, overall.
Eliza is an elegant and beautiful name. It's my favourite short form of Elizabeth.
I love it! Rarely anyone uses this as a diminutive for Elizabeth! I wish this was used more often by mothers!
You hardly ever see this nickname for Elizabeth and I think it's the best one! I love it! Stop the hate on this name.
I really like this name, even though I’ve never seen Hamilton (I know, I just cannot sit through a musical). I kinda like the name Eliza Scarlett for a girl.
This name just annoys me for some reason. I don’t mind it as much spelled Aliza, although I don’t care for either!
Elegant name.
Strongly dislike this name. Sorry.
Yeah, not a fan!
I love this classic name.
I don’t see the appeal at all! Just ugly!
I think it's beautiful.
Not a fan at all! I would absolutely hate being stuck with this name!
Well chief, it's been 14 years and I still haven't managed to like my own name. I've never met another person named Eliza, but I personally think my name Eliza is not really nice, would definitely suit another person other than me. It is a beautiful name though chief, pretty attractive too, yes that's my personal impression of this name called Eliza.
I really hope this doesn't get popular.
Has always been my number 1 name. My first favorite name ever, I loved this since I was about 3 years old.
Pretty and it’s better than Elizabeth.
I don't like it very much as a nickname or a full name.
I think that this name is beautiful because my cousin's name is Eliza and she is a wonderful and graceful person. She is amazing.
My name is Eliza and I love it. :)
I like this name. Unique and pretty.
I think this name is unique and beautiful. I'm surprised it isn't more popular, considering how beautiful it is.
My mum wanted to call me Eliza and I regret she didn't. I doubt it would suit my personality, but I really love its sound. I love the name Eliza! I don't plan to have children, but if I would have, Eliza would be very high on my list and, as I'm Polish, I pronounce it e-LEE-zah and love it the most with such pronunciation. Here it isn't a very popular name. My first association with Eliza is a very mysterious, introverted, but self confident woman, a bit romantic and very sensitive, but not showing emotions. She's intelligent and clever. She loves to read and write and is very artistic. She loves authors like Elizabeth Gaskell, Jane Austen or the sisters Bronte. She's very intuitive, but also materialistic. She's tall and quite slim, has dark brown, long, wavy hair, pale complexion and almond shaped green eyes, she likes dark, calm colours. I know two Elizas and they're both very strong personalities and very motherly to their children.
I have always loved the name Eliza. It's pretty, old and classic. In 2005 I had a daughter and named her Eliza May.
Eliza is the best nickname for Elizabeth, so good that it's amazing on it's own as well.
Very beautiful in the factor that it is very simple and sounds very classical. Make me think of someone intelligent and witty, reminds me of the David Bowie song, Life on Mars, the part about the girl with the mousey brown hair.
For whatever reason, this name makes me picture a nun. Not sure why. Aside from that, it's a fine name, though I'd take the full version of "Elizabeth" over Eliza any day.
My friend's name is Eliza, but we all call her Elise. It reminds me of old people.
I saw on a new website Parenting-Checkpoint/baby-names/ that Eliza is the "smartest female name". Eliza is 6.5 times more likely to study at Yale and 3.5 times more likely to study at Harvard than an average female student.
Great name, but I don't like how English people pronounce it. Uh-LIE-zah Makes me think of lying or lice. Or both.
I am named Eliza and I really like my name. I always have problems with pronunciation, though; it's Eh-leez-a, not E-lies-a -_-. My mother is Polish so that's why there is an "eee" sound.
My name is Eliza Jo actually. The only bad thing about it is I was born in 94' so all through school everyone called me Eliza Thornberry. But other than that it's a very unique name and I never have to worry when they're calling roll if they mean me or someone else. I went to school with 4 Ashleys and when the role got called they all would raise their hand at once.
Modern yet sophisticated at the same time- I like it! ^^
My name is Eliza and I'm very grateful to be called something so lovely. I rarely have any problems with people spelling or pronouncing it wrong and people often compliment me on it. Eliza just seems to have a fresh feel complimented by the weight of an actual history, all of which come together nicely. Basically I wholeheartedly recommend it if you are planning on calling your child that, it's a great name to have.
I think this name works better on its own, rather than a nickname and that it would look cute on a girl of any age.
Great nickname for Elizabeth.
I secretly always wanted to be called this because my middle name is Elizabeth, but no one ever did haha. I think it's pretty and spunky.I've heard it pronounced:
EE-lies-uh
A-lies-uh
I-lies-uh
I love the name Eliza- I use it for one of my role playing characters. It fits well for a child, as well as a nickname for Elizabeth (which I also love), yet it doesn't sound to childish for adults.Yes, Eliza is the name of the main character in the show 'The Wild Thornberries' on Nick. Also, a funny little piece of information, my character's name is 'Eliza Spencer', though not named after Lady Eliza Victoria Spencer, but after 'Spencer Hale', a character from a movie, and Spencer, the crazy older brother on iCarly. (Yes, I know that I'm strange.)
This is a very pretty, sophisticated, and classy name.
Perhaps because of the Pygmalion/My Fair Lady association, this name has a very spunky quality, but it is classic enough to suit a woman throughout her life.
I love this name! I think it is so cute for a little girl as well as a woman. I am considering naming my daughter this who is due in June!
I think Eliza is an adorable name. It's great as a nickname for Elizabeth, as well as being great on its own. I think a good middle name for Eliza is Amelia: Eliza Amelia.
Eliza is a lovely name.
