Meaning & History

Derived from Greek ἠώς (eos) "dawn" (see also Eos) combined with Greek φορεω (phoreo) "to carry, to bear." For the latter element, also compare Greek φερω (phero), which has the same meaning. As the son of the goddess Eos, Eosphoros is the personification of the morning star in Greek mythology.
