Derived from the Greek adjective εὐρύς (eurys) meaning "wide, broad" combined with the Greek noun ἄναξ (anax) meaning "master, lord, chief".This was the name of a Spartan general from the 5th century BC, who was the son of the Spartan prince Dorieus.
