This name was "misspelled" Fievel for the mouse Fievel Mousekewitz in the animated film "An American Tail" about Russian-Jewish mice who come to America.

Pronounced fie-vul.

I can't stand this name because of that godawful movie An American Tail.

Though usually not a fan of diminutives, I prefer this form to Feibush. Definitely one of my favorite Yiddish names. (As noted above, in “that godawful movie An American Tail” it was Fievel, not Feivel. Two different names, at least technically.)

The name Feivel and its variants in Yiddish are often appended to the name Shraga (Aramaic in origin). Both mean light, candle or lamp.
