The name Fihr is spelled فهر in Arabic. In classical Arabic it means, according to Lane's dictionary, not a pestle as such but a round stone which is used for the same things a pestle would be, that is to crush things with. Fihr Ibn Malik was not the direct grandfather of Muhammad, but preceded him by 11 generations. [noted -ed]
