In my opinion, Francisco is a Spanish name that shares a rich history going back centuries. It has many illustrious individuals from the past who have made an impact by their actions. From poets, painters, politicians, and explorers. The name Francisco has it all. While still a popular choice amidst the Hispanic world, it should not come as a surprise to some that Francisco has managed to find a certain appeal to families who might not have any Hispanic heritage. Whether you desire to honor your heritage or wish to offer your son a unique twist to the English version of Francis, Francisco is a wonderful choice all around. Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year!
I will admit that this name is not one of my top ten favorite boy names. However, this name is not everywhere and to put my words bluntly, is not a "stupid" name. Enough said and if this is your first name, then by all means feel proud of it and the history that is attached to it. Good day.
I think Francisco is a great alternative to the equally handsome name Francis. I like the fact that it contains three syllables and it looks good on paper when written with a nice signature. Those are my thoughts on this name and many good cheers to those who have read this comment. :)
I'm not a fan of this name. I think it looks awkward and complex from the get go which, from my point of view, leaves a lot to be desired.
I like this name, it's simple yet complex, and very handsome. Franny is cute as well.
I used to hate this name and only Francesco, but now I think it's great!
Yawn, to me it looks and sounds like 'Francis and Co.' which doesn't let me take a person with this name seriously.
This name is okay, but not great! I believe there are other names way better and cooler than clunky Francisco.
This is my former first name and I didn't like it per se. One of the major reasons growing up was the length of it and people constantly getting the name's spelling incorrect. On paper it looks nice but in a fast paced world like today, this name is not very practical. Plus, I never was too thrilled on the nicknames used for it like Frank, Frankie or least of all, Paco.
Handsome name.
Francisco is a name that is quite common in my family since it includes grandfather, great grandfather and cousins just to name a few. Still a good name nonetheless.
I really love this name, and while I've never been to San Francisco, I like the city enough. And Frank is actually a pretty good name, if they choose that instead.
My name is Francisco and let me tell you that having this name in my childhood was a mixed bag. On one hand
it is not a very common name where I live. On the other figurative hand, I sometimes had one annoying kid tease me about the city of San Francisco or it being the "gay" capital of America and other homophobic slurs. But I bore it and when I entered high school and now attending University, I have not received any negative comments concerning my name, simply positive on occasion. I also go by Frank on most days when dealing with others. It is just simple and easy to get by. Still a good name that I have learned to appreciate as a young adult.
The name, Francisco, is a long forename that is not very common and it also reminds me of one of my favorite cities in California, San Francisco. It does help as well that my younger brother also goes by this name. He, however, usually goes by the nickname of “Frank” whenever introducing himself in front of strangers and people he does not really know. Amongst family and friends he goes by his actual name. :)
Such a cool name. Very masculine and powerful, and San Francisco's a nice city too. And besides, if you don't like the name you could always shorten it to Francis or Frank.
Not a very good name at all since it is overly long and not the kind that I like. Not a good name for any child in an anglophone environment.
I have an older cousin named Francisco and although he likes his name a lot, the only problem he encountered while growing up was the Rice-a-Roni San Francisco treat reference from the 90’s commercials. Other than that, he has no complaints about it. My own personal opinions would be on the emphasis of the “co” and how it may add a more “masculine” sound to the English version of Francis. But those are just mere personal observations that should be taken with a grain of salt.
Well these comments ruined this name for me... besides, I hate fascism as well, more than any form of government and dictatorship so I despise Franco.
My father and great grandfather both have this name though my dad shortens it to Frank which bothers my grandmother to no end. She finds the name perfect just the way it is and doesn't see why he would want to shorten it. My father keeps telling me he would love me to name a son after him one day. I do love how this name sounds but I always have problems trying to remember how to spell it. So yeah I really do love this name and most likely use it as a middle name if I ever have a son.
I think that this is becoming a less and less popular name within Spanish society. This is just a guess from a football fan, but I've seen players named Francisco go by Isco, Paco, Juanfran, etc.: not by their given name Francisco though. Maybe it has something to do with Francisco Franco?
Reminds me of the movie Elf when Buddy meets a guy named Francisco and he's flipping through the pages of a book going "Francisco, Francisco," :D.
This is my boyfriend's name and I absolutely love it. It's very masculine and powerful. It's also easy to pronounce.
