I like the name Franklin a lot, perhaps because it's my brother's name, but also from the use the nickname "Frank" can have, yes I am being quite Frank with you.
I don't find it pretentious, but instead dignified. The name has a lot of good history.

Franklin Graves (1789-Dec 25, 1846) was the head of one of the families in the Donner Party. With the aged farmer were his wife, Elizabeth (Oct 1800-March 7, 1847), and their nine children, from newlywed Sarah (1825-1871) and her husband, Jay Fosdick (1823-1847), to baby Elizabeth (1845-1847). December 17, Franklin Graves and his two eldest daughters and son-in-law set off with eleven other immigrants to find help, supplying them with makeshift snowshoes. Sadly, he died the evening of Christmas Day, with daughters Mary and Sarah holding him as he urged them to use his body for food if they must. Graves and his wife both died, together with their three youngest children and their son-in-law.
So cute :) although I think it might remind children of the TV show about the turtle named Franklin, it probably wouldn't be that big of an issue and you can always use the nicknames frank or Frankie, which are adorable as well!
