No doubt about it, Gary needs to make a comeback!
This is the perfect name for a pro bowler.
You could also use it as a nickname for Garrett or Gareth.
Possibly a nickname for Garrett.
Gary is a concise and characterful masculine name that is criminally misunderstood and underused. It is one of the most distinct and proud names of our time! Gary is a truly archaic name with the tenacious and upstanding meaning of 'Spear'In a century or so it will come back with a boom.Mark.My.Words!
Best name on the planet earth. Everyone should name their child this and if you have a daughter call her Garyanne or you will be arrested. Ty for attending my ted talk. I love you.
It's not that bad. Like Mary, it doesn't work with my surname. I mean, I guess there are worse names.
Sooooo ugly!
Not very attractive; I prefer Larry over this.
I really don’t like this name. One of my least favorites if I’m being honest. I once knew a kid from school named Gary McDonald. And I honestly feel for that kid.
Here in England it only suits men in their 40s, extremely dated - imagine meeting a baby Gary, lol.
This is my Dad’s name... born 1971. I believe he likes his name although I’ve never asked. I like it, though I’m biased because of him.
One of my least favorite names.
I like Gary as a full name.It is short and simple with a clear meaning (spear). It is ageless in my opinion because it is quite classic.I have good namesakes for it: Gary Oldman (actor) and Gary Hobson (character).A solid, not pretentious name.
Well, this name isn't odd sounding or unusual. It is a bit old fashioned but it's certainly a lot better than all those made up names like Maddox, Knox, Hayden, Jayden etc... Although nowadays someone with this name will get teased and get called Gary The snail.
Gary Soto is an American-Hispanic poet.
It means brave spearman. It is easy to pronounce, and to spell. Not a bad name to live with. I have met several nice people who were not loud, opinionated, rude or gay, that are named Gary. If you are concerned about dropping the r, well, just don't... Considering some of the weird names people are giving their children, I think Gary is pretty good. Parents need to think about what it will be like for a child to go thru life with the name given to them. This is a strong, dignified name.
Gary The Snail comes to mind! I really like this name, it sounds so handsome and sophisticated, and it will age well. Though I really like Gary as a boy’s name, Gary looks like a name that will become unisex in the future.
One of my grandfather's names was Gary. (Actually, his real name was Gernard but he went by Gary). I like this name. A little old fashioned, but I can see it on a kid nowadays in a way.
This name is too old fashioned, and reminds me too much of the word "gay" and SpongeBob's pet snail.
My father's name, it is very old fashioned. I would be very surprised if a boy in 2016 was named this. I mean it's not terrible, but just dated. I think of Gary the snail :)
I like the name Gary. It has a quirky feel to it. I think of Gary Cooper and Gary Oldman when I hear it. It's sad to see its decline in Britain (Probably due to the disgusting sick pervert Gary Glitter). It would be nice to see a new generation of Gary's. Also, I named one of my characters Gary.
This name always makes me think of either Pokémon or Spongebob.
I don't hate this name. I do realize it's a bit dated and would suit an older male far more than a boy from an younger generation but that's not the main reason stopping me from actually using it. Gary. Take out the r and you are left with the word, "Gay".
I really have mixed feelings about this when it's an independent name, just like Harry, Barry, and Larry,
Kind of rough sounding, I think.
I find this name so darn cute! :D Although... I can't help but think of the character Gary Oak whenever I hear or say this name... lol.
I actually think this is a very cute name for a little boy that can grow with him and won't sound ridiculous as an adult name. I'd rather meet a little Gary than a little Aiden/Kayden/Jayden any day.
It's too nickname-y for me, even though I know that's not the case. Don't care for it.
Ever since I began watching Spongebob Squarepants on Nickelodeon, it makes me think of Gary the snail. But I never much cared for the name anyway.
I like this name, but it always makes me think of SpongeBob's snail.
This name has some positive connotations to me, as it is the name of one of my uncles. However, I wouldn't use this name. Not only am I not particularly fond of its sound, I also think it looks as though it's supposed to be short for something.
I can't stand this name. I hate it, like I hate Barry and Larry. All these names make me think of annoying, obnoxious, possibly loud-mouthed middle-aged American men who like to tell sexist jokes and laugh very hard at their own brilliance. Also, the names Gary, Barry, and Larry make me think of the same type of guys telling all sorts of generalizing stories that are supposed to prove some type of ''realities'' that many people can't relate to, and who think they are right about everything they believe about human nature. So no, I don't like the name, and naming the boy Garrett would be much better. British guys named Gary have often gone by Gaz and been more bearable, or that would be my humble guess.
It's true, my boyfriend is a Gary and he is obnoxious, he does laugh loud, even at himself, but these are some of the things I love so much about him. I guess it's all in your personality preferences... I love my Gary! =)
