This is such a harsh-sounding name to me. I'm not a fan of it, but I do like the longer Margareta. There are so many other great German names to choose from, this one just sounds harsh to me.
I’m usually not too fond of G names or names that have many hard sounds, but Greta has really grown on me! It feels like the name of an energetic child and a strong, bright adult—regardless of personality :)
This name walks a line between elegant and strong. It is lovely. Pronouncing the 't' is important.
Very pretty name, and works well for all ages!
I am a Greta, now in my 60s. As a child I hated the name. It was too unusual. Too harsh. Not pretty. I wanted to be Julie. Once an adult I loved my name and was proud to be Greta. I found it elegant and rare. It has to be spoken well though, with the 't' sounded, not as 'd'.
I like this name and don’t see Greta Thunberg as a negative association for this name at all!
I think this name is somewhat pretty. I do think it will age well too.
I've always loved this name since I was a little girl, it feels very enchanting and slightly trickster-like in the best way. It's pleasant to say and suits girls and women alike.
If we are talking about twin combos I have an idea:Greta and LieselI think they suit each other perfectly.
Bro, this name is ugly it sounds like the name Gretel which is also ugly, plus it sounds very old like for an old lady.
Pretty and ages well.
Greta is a nice name, and I like it a lot. I don't have a bad association with Greta Thunberg, and I like her cause, however I don't think I could ever become a Vegan. I like meat too much. She's a month older than me I believe. Greta Garbo is a wonderful association, I don't mind that either.
Karina and Greta make great names for twins in my opinion.
I love this name. It’s adorable and ages well! I don’t know why, but I think Greta and Calvin would make great twins!
I love this name. Greta is an Old World name long tied to the exotic, iconic Garbo. Greta is a beautiful name sophisticated with a touch of retro glamour. Greta is Margarete. Related names include Daisy, Greta, Gretchen, Madge, Mae, Mag, Magee, Margarita, Margareta, Margarida, Marge, Margery, Marget, Margo, Margot, Marjorie, Marjory, Matge, May, Meg, Megan, Mairead, Mer, Meta, Rita...
It is a strong name. Who remembers Margaret Thatcher?
You can find Greta in Goethe's Faust, Margarita in Bulgakov "Master and Margarita". Definitely a beautiful and sophisticated name with a long history.
I think this is a lovely vintage name.
I'm German and I don't even like this name. Sounds too rough and unpleasant. I much prefer Karla and Ingrid.
Greta sounds like a villain name.
I don’t like it, sorry. It’s not about being a witch name but the unpleasant sound.
I dislike Greta and its sound. It reminds me 'gretta' that in Italian means "mean; stingy; small-minded".Despite this fact Greta is very popular being #8 in 2017. Overly popular in my opinion.Currently Greta Thunberg is my main association with it. Good but not enough to make the name pleasant.
Greta is a very common name for girls in Italy, it was the 8th most popular name for girls born in Italy in 2017. I find it very cute and elegant at the same time, it makes me think about a beautiful little girl with braids.
I like this name but I like it better spelled Gretta. Though this name seems a bit too harsh with consonants to my ears now.
Greta is one of those names that makes me cringe at just hearing.
My daughter's name, she's a little cracker and I love it.
My little sister is named Greta and she and the name are cute and pretty.
Greta is a very gorgeous name! It sounds sophisticated, classy, and elegant. It stands out as an international and universal name that sounds lovely in all languages and does not require a translation. In the US, it remains a gem to be discovered! It is appreciated and has become quite popular in many European countries.
This name really grew on me. I love the old Hollywood glamour association. Keira Knightley played a character named Gretta in the 2013 movie Begin Again.
GRETA IS AN AMAZING, UNIQUE, INTELLIGENT NAME, THAT'S WHY IT MEANS PEARLThat's just my opinion:)
My daughter is called Greta (short for Margaret). We have yet to meet another Greta. It's a name you either love or hate. I obviously think it's cute. I named her thinking she would have big brown eyes (like all her siblings) and a brown bob... out popped a little blue eyed blonde much like the great Greta Garbo.
I used to think of an old German woman when I heard this, but now I love it. I'm using it as a character in a book.
I like the name Greta, but I don't know if I would consider using it. Maybe if I lived in another country. Two things come to mind when I hear the name: regret and granola... I get the regret part but granola?! I still don't know why I think of granola.
My mum's name is Greta and is short for her full name Margaretta. She doesn't like her name but I think it would be quite cute on a little girl.
It does kind of grow on you. I taught an art class to a little girl named Greta. I like it a lot now.
I like this name a lot. Sure, it may be old-fashioned to some, but I can see it on a young person as well as someone older.
I usually think of this sweet, wide-eyed little ingenue when I think of this name. And it ages well.
I love this name. At first I thought it wasn't anything special but it kinda grows on you.
