Sounds too surnamey.
Why would any rational person name a baby Herbert. Just awful.
Makes me think of herbs. Cute. 🌿.
This name is growing on me. I think it sounds cute.
Very dated but not unfortunate.
I knew someone with this name once but he went by the name of Herb and it suited him really well. I remember him telling me his name covered all the stages of his life (As a child, he was called Herbie; As an adult he was called Herb and when he becomes an old man, he'll go by Herbert). I always liked that.
I honestly really like the name Herbert, and I find the nickname Herbie cute. But I do agree it sounds a tad bit way too old fashioned. Just name your child plant and go.
My poor husband's middle name is Herbert. He hates his full name, Benjamin Herbert, and goes by Ben, but I don't really like his middle name like him. I only ever used it when I had to put his full name of our children's birth certificates lol.
Makes me think of Herbert the Pervert. No thanks.
This is one of those names that sounded clunky in theory, but after actually meeting someone called Herbert, it seems like a perfectly decent name. Maybe I’m biased by the positive association, but at the very least I can say it isn’t impossible to wear this name well. It’s got a solid and reliable sort of feel to it.
I love this name. Very sophisticated and intelligent-sounding.
It reminds me of that sadist and monster Herbert Kitchener but I don't care. Herbert is a cool name with a cool meaning. It rhymes with Robert so I like to think Herbert is like a brother name for Robert.
Outdated name. Not too good namesakes and it’s honestly kinda ugly...
Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy ruined it.
Don't name your child Herbert. NEVER.
Despite the fact that it reminds me of that monster Herbert Kitchener, I still like this name. I also love the meaning. I think this would make for a very fresh and original choice for a child today.
Too odd sounding.
Very dorky sounding but hey, it's the name of that snowbird president Herbert Hoover from Iowa.
I love the French pronunciation, but the English pronunciation makes me think of a creepy old man. I swear it's not just Family Guy.
I love this name! I think it sounds cool.
The name has, not one, but two long schwa sounds, so it's not exactly a beautiful name. It's also very old-fashioned, and I'd probably burst a vein in my head laughing if I heard a parent shout: ''Herbert, it's time to go!'' It would sound quite pompous and pretentious, not to mention quite geeky, on a child today, and I hate the nickname Herbie.
This is a cool name, I like it. It reminds of herbs every time I say it though.
I think this name just sounds "Bright."
I like how you say this name.
Herbert, along with its pet forms, sounds grandad-ish to me, in the same way that Gertrude, along with its own pet form Gertie, makes me think of old ladies.
I thought Herbert was a nickname for someone who is nice but a bit dim, like "he's a bit of a Herbert".
