When my baby girl is born I’m going to name her Ila Clementine Martinez. I know it doesn’t fit together but each name means something special to me and I’m not really worried about how well it comes off the tongue.

I used this name for one of my twins (b.2008), except I added a y after the I to prevent people from pronouncing it with a short I sound. I didn't realize at the time that for most fonts capital I and lowercase L are difficult to tell apart. A lot of people say Lyla the first time they meet her, but at least it rhymes. She doesn't mind much. She loves her name and gets tons of compliments on how beautiful it is. When we chose the name, we had never heard it before, but in the last 5 years I've met a few babies and toddlers named Isla, which sounds the same, even if it's from a different root.

I have an Ila born in 2012! I heard it from my husband and father in law, they were referring to 'Aint Ila Gray' (NC proud). We say eye-LA. It's a beautiful name and we have received many 'ooohs' when introducing her.

For once, I'm not the ONLY "Ila" in the room! Growing up I met another Ila, but the other "Ila"s that I'd met were always old ladies, which lends credence to the historical popularity of the name. I met a Swedish professor that informed me that Ila was a Swedish word that meant to hurry, or 'hustle'! Also, there's a small town in Madison County Georgia named "Ila" that was established in the early 1900's, during a wave of Swedish immigration in the State of Georgia.

I am an Ila born in the 30's when the name had more popularity. In my town of 100, 000, I know of five of us with that name!

I am Ila Drucilla! I was given this name in 1971. I have only come across 5 Ila's in my life that were older than me. I did come across a 3 year old about 8 months ago. I thought this name was going extinct. I had a hard time in school being called all sorts of names. I think different names are more accepted now than in 1971.

It is pronounced eye-la. My daughter has spent most of her life correcting the pronunciation of her name. At her grandmother's request, Illa, we spelled it this way to try to avoid the "ill-a" that she was often called. The Inner Hebrides island, Islay, is pronounced the same way.

My name is Ila. When I was younger I wished I had a name like "Debbie" or "Linda", so as to fit in better. Now, at the age of 54, I think it is kind of cool that I have yet to meet another living person with the same name as me.

My husband and I named our daughter Ila Joy. She is named after both of her great grandmothers. I think it is a very beutiful name, there are enough Macenzie, Taylor, and Rileys in the world.
