The personal name of Ghiyāth al-Dīn Jamshīd Masʿūd al-Kāshī (c. 1380 - 1429 AD). He was a Persian astronomer and mathematician.
When my brother and I saw this name's meaning, we laughed really hard until we looked up the name "Jam". (Well, my brother laughed after that, too.) In English, jam is a food, not a river - though a "shining river" sounds rather pretty.I think it would be okay to use this name in an English-speaking country - especially if you like unusual names - because the meaning won't be funny to people who know nothing about it, or who know the meaning of "Jam".
