I named my daughter Maple and the response has been very positive. Several people have commented how much they like the name - it's unique but doesn't come across as too weird. Only down side is that it does occasionally get misheard as Mabel.

Maple is one of my favorite names for a girl! I think it is so sweet, cute, feminine and just altogether beautiful! It reminds me of the beginning of autumn, and the holiday season. I absolutely love this name!

Simply means "Maple" in English, derived from Old English mapulder "Maple tree". As a given name Maple has been occasionally found from the late 1600s onwards, on both men and women, which leads modern-day academics to the assumption that back then it was first and foremost a transferred use of the surname (which is derived from the name of the tree and originally referred to someone who lived by or near a Maple tree). In this day and age, however, Maple is almost exclusively used as a feminine name, likely influenced by the similar sound of the name Mabel. In the literary world, Maple is the name of a young girl in Robert Frost's poem entitled Maple.

Minus one ‘A’ it’s an anagram for Pamela, so it could be a nickname for Pamela or a way to honor a relative named Pamela.
