I have a friend named Marita, and though I'll admit it is unique, it didn't suit her, and I always thought of it as a bizarre and slightly ugly name. Even she said she wanted to change it one day. It has grown on me though.

Marita is also used in Georgia. Dimunitive of Mariam. It's quite rare and really unique.
