In Spanish, midwives are called "matronas".
Matrona Dmitrievna Nikonova (Russian: Матро́на Дими́триевна Ни́конова; 22 November 1881 – 2 May 1952) is a canonized saint of the Russian Orthodox Church who is said to have had the gifts of prophecy, spiritual vision, and healing from early childhood.
I don't like this name. I dislike the fact that it contains "matron" in it, and it also sounds extremely old-fashioned.
The name Matrona is also in use in Georgia. In Georgian, Matrona is written as: მატრონა.
I like this. It's different but super adorable.
