It reminds me of Moria, like the mine from Lord of the Rings.

For some reason I'm okay with it when it's spelled Mariah, but not Moriah. This spelling makes me think too much of Moria, the place from Lord of the Rings. I don't like the place Moriah from Lord of the Rings.
My name is Moriah, and I pronounce it mo-rye-a. But most people just say "mo".

This is my middle name, however my mother spelled it M-O-R-I-A and left the h off. It makes it very unique BUT I often have to correct the pronunciation because it is usually mistaken for Maria. Even though my mother used the spelling M-O-R-I-A we use the pronunciation of Mariah.

I think Moriah is a very pretty name, but I don't think I could ever use it. Mount Moriah is the name of a cult that's located within a few miles of where I live.
Some of you commenters who think this name is a knock-off of Mariah are so ignorant! Did you even read the entry for this name? This was a place name in Genesis of the Bible that means "seen by Yahweh", or in other words, "seen by God." Mariah, "bitter; of the sea; wished for; love", has nothing to do with it, seeing as Mariah is a later form of Mary. Also, Moriah is a Native American word meaning "wind." It's a very lovely, elegant and almost ethereal name.
