This entry is actually incorrect. The name "Mormon" comes from the Book of Mormon, a companion book to the Bible in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which is titled for the man (Mormon) who compiled most of the records in the book. He, in turn, got his name from a place where many of his ancestors were baptized, which was called the Waters of Mormon. The origin and meaning of the name are unknown.
