John Muir was one of the earliest modern preservationists. He founded the Sierra Club, and his direct activism helped save the Yosemite Valley and other wilderness areas. (Information found from Wikipedia.org)

Muir also means "sea" in Gaeilge. I would never think of a moor, but the sea, and I think any other Gaeilge or Scottish Gaelic speaker would too. It reminds me beauty, turbulence and strength, yet also tranquility and peace.
