Actually, the German pronunciation is different for Miriam and Myriam as the letter "y" makes a different vowel sound; it's a bit closer to sounding like "Muriam."

I went to junior high with a girl named Myriam. At the time, I thought it was just a funky way to spell Miriam; I had no idea it was the French version! Anyway, it's still pretty.
