Meaning & History

Meaning uncertain. Georgian sources state that the name is derived from either a Circassian word that means "restless", or a Kabardian word that means "light". Also compare Abkhaz амза (amza) meaning "moon", Georgian მზე (mze) meaning "sun" and Kabardian мазэ (maza) meaning "moon".

In Georgian literature, Mzagho is the name of one of the main characters of the novel Elguja (1881) written by Aleksandre Qazbegi (1848-1893).
