The character for "nao" means more than just obedient, it also carries the idea of being straight and honest. There's another "nao" kanji that means "noble".

Very aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn't even hesitate to use it as a name for a girl with no Japanese heritage at all. The meaning is also desirable, when you count the other senses besides just "obedient".

In the manga & TV drama Liar Game, a girl named Naoko Kanzaki is one of the main characters. Her name fits, because her honest personality makes her horrible at playing the devious game.

Naoko Yamazaki is a former Japanese astronaut at JAXA, the second Japanese woman to qualify. The first was Chiaki Mukai. Yamazaki was born Naoko Sumino in Matsudo City. She spent two years of her childhood in Sapporo. After graduating from Ochanomizu University Senior High School in 1989, Yamazaki earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1993, and earned a Master of Science degree with a major in Aerospace Engineering in 1996.
