Meaning & History

From Niji combined with the suffix 丸 (maru) meaning "circle, round," used before the Meiji Period (1868-1912) as a suffix denoting affection (along with -maro (麿/麻呂)) and was given to boys of upper class until they came of age, usually at ages 13 to 17.

Despite the suffix's history of usage, this name is only recently used and it is a very rare name at that.
