Curiously, the male form, Nirmal, is pronounced NEER-mahl. Stress is on the first syllable, but the vowel of the second syllable is a long aah, not the short uh of Nirmala. I have asked Indians why this is, but no one has been able to provide me with an answer.
Pronounced "neer-MAH-lah". It also means "clean". [noted -ed]
